Particle Systems

NOTE: I’m trying something a bit different for this post. Instead of giving a full breakdown of how I did everything, I’m just gonna include the link to the video that helped me figure it out. If you prefer the way I did the previous break downs, let me know and I’ll make some others like that.

The name on this post is a bit misleading. I didn’t really learn much about particle systems, but instead, just the hair portion.

When I started this project, I really wanted everything to be rendered out in EEVEE. Not just because of how much quicker it is than Cycles, but because I really wanted this to show off even further what Blender was capable of. That being said, I thought the option of having a hair particle system was out the window.

I was so happy to see that it wasn’t! And I was blown away at the way the hair looks in real time!

I have to give all of the credit to Olav3D Tutorials and their excellent tutorial on the hair system.

I literally just followed them step for step til I got the hair looking how I wanted it to.

The one thing that I didn’t learn from this video, but was happy to find out was that if you add a material to the item the hair is emitting from, you can have the particle system adapt the colors from the spot it is emitted from! That is how I was able to get the red and black stripes.

That’s about all for today’s post. If you have any further questions on how I did this, please reach out to me. I’d love to help walk you through what I did if that would be a help to you.
